I created this painting for my son. He was born premature and we were flown 1000's of kilometres interstate for extra care for him within 24 hours of his birth. After a few weeks when he finally made it from intensive care to special care, we were flown to a hospital closer to home.
Our ambulance drive from the airport to the hospital was along the beach at Coolangatta. Looking out at the ocean, on that drive, I saw humpback whales playing and breaching in the water. It was such a beautiful sign of hope for me after a few tough weeks in hospital.
The image came to me months later while I was caring for my sick baby. I added things to the Humpback whale's back that symbolised freedom and adventure. There is a plane that is similar to the air ambulance like the one he first flew on, a tractor, mountains, camping, bikes and a sense of adventure. I hoped that he would grow up healthy, happy and live out an exciting childhood, full of camping, adventures and fun.
My hope is that your child looks at it and dreams up wild big adventures.
Packaging & delivery
Prints are printed on quality archival matte long lasting paper using high quality archival ink. The print colour's are really vivid and beautiful.
All posters are printed by me in my home studio in the Northern Rivers. So totally handmade.
The print is a reproduction of my original hand painted watercolour artwork.
You can choose between these sizes:
- A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) / 8.3" x 11.7"
- A3 (29.7cm x42cm)/ 11.7"x16.5"
Your print will be sent in a protective cardboard mailing tube for A3; and a flat cardboard mailer for A4.
Posters will be packaged for maximum protection during shipping.
