About me

Hi, I’m Shantele — an illustrator with a background in environmental science, specialising in fisheries biology. I live on a farm in northern New South Wales where everyday life is closely connected to the land, seasons, and the natural world around us.

My love for nature has always shaped the way I see and create. Studying environmental science gave me a deeper understanding of ecosystems, species connections, and the importance of biodiversity, and that knowledge continues to guide my artwork today.

I am a self taught illustrator, creating watercolour illustrations inspired by Australia’s animals, plants, and environments — from marine life to bushland species and the smaller, often overlooked creatures that play such an important role in healthy ecosystems.

What started with an Australian animal alphabet poster for my son when he was born, to teach him about Australian animals, has grown into a wider collection of prints and cards and educational flashcards celebrating our unique flora and fauna.

Living on a farm has slowed my pace and strengthened my connection to nature. It’s given me the space to observe, notice details, and appreciate the rhythms of the environment, all of which influence my creative process.

I am so inspired by our unique Australian animals. Through my work, I hope to share the beauty and diversity of Australia’s natural world and inspire a deeper appreciation for the environments we live in — whether that connection starts with learning, storytelling, or simply enjoying a piece of art.
